What can we say about The Liquor Store, Manchester’s coolest bar and our home from home that seems to have been around much longer than a year so legendary are its nights.
“.no-nonsense oasis, with great music, serving hearty, unpretentious drinks with a really cool vibe.”
As we said when it first opened so handily near the I Love office and our various apartments, if Manchester had invented the cocktail bar, it would be this no-nonsense oasis, with great music, serving hearty, unpretentious drinks with a really cool vibe.
It’s the banter, the people Biggsy, Emma, Andy, Doug and Jodie (even doorman Mike), that makes this place work and the fact that what happens in The Liquor Store (and everything does) stays in The Liquor Store.
“.win a £100 bar tab for what is bound to be the city’s best birthday shindig.”
Now one lucky I Love MCR reader can see for themselves and win a £100 bar tab for what is bound to be the city’s best birthday shindig on Friday, November, 29.
The birthday cake and cup cakes are being supplied by the lovely Zara Cakes of Prestwich, an expert cake-maker, who bakes all types of cakes to suit all budgets, from cupcakes to wedding cakes. Designs made to order www.zaracakes.com
For those who have never stepped through its hallowed doors, the decor has been designed to allow the 100 or so capacity crowd to have fun without worrying about coasters or spilling things. And it has a 3am license which makes it even more appealing for night owls.
“.fantastic array of mind-altering cocktails, friendly service and Manchester’s most infamous bartender and flarer, Biggsy.”
Over the past year, the bar has rapidly become a hangout for all the coolest people due to its fantastic array of mind-altering cocktails, friendly service and Manchester’s most infamous bartender and flarer, Biggsy, who never fails to produce a delicious concoction no matter what your requirements.
This place can provide any tipple you want, whether it’s a fruity vodka-based thirst quenching cocktails fruity (Rachel’s favourite), the Queen’s fizz or its potent blue shots (the Gay’s quaff of choice ) – they’re delicious but we still don’t know what’s in them – and the ‘Red Ginger Fizz’ created specially for the Ginge. They also serve delicious alcohol-soaking snacks such as nachos and a variety of cheese and meat platters to keep those hangovers at bay.
The walls are adorned with quotes from the songs they like to play – expect to hear Oasis, The Stone Roses and The Smiths – and the decorations pay homage to a variety of Manchester legends, one of whom will be playing at their birthday knees-up.
This celebratory shindig in association with XFM will be a get together to remember – or not if you get on the blue shots – and will feature none other than Manc superstar Clint Boon spinning tunes on the decks.
They will also have live music from early doors, a free drink on arrival along with an obligatory tash, canapés and, in real rock n roll style, a HUGE birthday cake.
