If you thought classical ballet is all tutus and Tchaikovsky, think again.
The English National Ballet is bringing a full-blooded ballet of love, luxury and passion as intense as Romeo & Juliet to Manchester later this year.
Kenneth MacMillan’s masterpiece Manon is the story of a young woman torn between two lives: privilege and opulence with a wealthy gentleman, or innocent love with a penniless student she has fallen for. Wanting it all will be her downfall.
Aristocrats, courtesans and beggars fill the stage, taking you from a gambling den in 18th century Paris to a desolate Louisiana swamp to tell this dramatic story.
A tragic romance to compete with any period drama, Manon is also full of magnificent choreography, and a sweeping score performed live by the English National Ballet Philharmonic.
From the orchestra striking up its first notes to the final bows and cheers, watching English National Ballet in the beautiful space of the Manchester Opera House will an experience to treasure.
