This month, Manchester’s Great Northern launched its first ever outdoor community kitchen and dining space, with weekly takeovers from different local restaurants.

The pop-up restaurant on the square provides a Covid-secure space for local businesses that are restricted with limited outdoor dining space, and the first restaurant to take up residence was Evuna.

Today, the next traders are taking over – and diners can expect fiery flavours and fully loaded dishes courtesy of Impossible & South Manny Flavaz.

Dishes will include Fleetwood Mac ‘n’ Cheese with Cheetos, a spicy Bangkok Badboy burger, and the Impossible Royale fried chicken burger – as well as the mighty Great Northern burger, which is topped with two slices of rump steak and Monterey Jack cheese.

Drinks-wise, there’s a range of Impossible’s star cocktails, including a Vimto bramble and frozen pina coladas and daiquirirs, plus wine or a cold beer at the Estrella Damm bar on the square.

All diners will experience table service to reduce close contact and ensure social distancing to kept at all times.

The Great Northern is running this pop-up space as a non-profit venture to help support Manchester’s hospitality industry, which has been amongst the most badly impacted sectors during the Covid-19 crisis.

The pop-up restaurant provides a Covid-secure space for local businesses that are restricted with limited outdoor dining space.

Brands and charities can apply to use the space via the Great Northern’s website; there’s no fee to pay to utilise the kitchen – brands simply pay the electricity bill for the facilities – and the site is even offering the first keg of beer free-of-charge to give a head start for those setting up shop onsite.

Following Impossible & South Manny Flavaz this week, they’ll be hosting Italian delights from Salvis over the Bank Holiday weekend.

“We’re so excited to be welcoming our next restaurant to the square this week,” said Great Northern’s Mark Schofield.

“Impossible & South Manny Flavaz always serve up vibrant and delicious dishes, perfect for the summer, so we can’t wait to welcome more visitors down to enjoy a burger and a beer, or even just a cocktail in the sun.”

Impossible & South Manny Flavaz will be taking over the square at Greart Northern Warehouse from 12 noon until 9pm Thursday 20th August until Sunday 23rd August. No need to book, simply pop down and enjoy drinks and food outdoors with your household.
