A number of venues in the city are turning going out for a drink into a whole new experience this month. Explore some of your favourite spirits watching a film or listening to great music – and even create your own!

Gin Safari

Learn about the history of African-inspired Whitely Neill gin and get some expert tuition, botanicals and tonics. Sampling is all part of the experience and you’ll enjoy it straight, in a G&T and a selection of delicious cocktails. Plus you’ll get the chance to win a bottle! Lawless

Enjoy a free screening of Lawless, a film about the Bondurant brothers – the notorious bootleggers of Prohibition-era Virginia  – in this 1920s styled speakeasy bar! You’ll feel part of the plot inside the atmospheric Fitzgerald, with a welcome drink from Hudson and free popcorn, too. The Fitzgerald, Tuesday 9 August, 7pm

A Masterclass with Hudson

Get your hands on a whole range of Hudson’s bourbon and whiskeys with a tasting session and masterclass in  stylish 1920s surroundings. You’ll learn about the rich history of Hudson – whether you fancy the superbly smoky Baby Bourbon or want to turn up the intensity with Manhattan Rye. There are so many flavours to explore and you will be guided through them all by experts. Bourbon & Blues 

Fancy a whiskey fuelled gig? An authentic American blues and rock n roll gig, followed by an after-party with acclaimed DJ Tobin Lochrie! It makes for a great night out, with free entry. Expect music, dancing and plenty of alcohol, of course! The Fitzgerald, Thursday 11 August, 8pm till late.

Tidal Rave: the official Manchester Loves Cocktails closing party 

A tiki takeover on a terrace featuring a rum-fuelled beach party? It sounds like a recipe for success and you are invited! Hula, the Northern Quarter’s only Tiki Bar, are taking over Rosylee’s Stevenson Square terrace in partnership with Santa Teresa for a paradise party. Expect palm trees, deckchairs and plenty to drink with 2 for £10 cocktails all night. At 10pm the party will move down to the bar. Hula, Sunday 14 August, 8pm – 3am. Get your wristband here
