The Alchemist Manchester has teamed up with local charity Mustard Tree to gift customers with a cocktail in exchange of one non-perishable food item on Thursday 29th August, for one day only.

Inspired by Burning Man’s theme of gifting, The Alchemist hopes the mutually beneficial exchange (a free cocktail for one non-perishable food item) will raise awareness about rising food poverty.

This new campaign is particularly timely, as recent statistics have shown that food bank use is increasing year on year.

The Alchemist have long been passionate about helping to tackle food poverty, being a partner of Foodinate since May 2018.

Across all of their sites, when customers order any item on the menu marked with a Foodinate fork icon, The Alchemist funds a meal for a person who needs it within the community.

To date they have provided 33,000 meals for the initiative.

Founded in 1994 by Dave and Shona Smith, who headed out with a flask and sandwiches to talk to rough sleepers across Manchester, Ancoats charity Mustard Tree now helps hundreds of people each year.

For the collaboration on 29th, The Alchemist Manchester branches in Spinningfields, New York Street and MediaCityUK will accept any tinned, dried and packaged foods throughout the day, as long as they are in date and unopened.

One cocktail, The Colour Changing One, (Grey Goose vodka, Briottet apple, soda, citrus and magic), will be given for every customer that donates a food item to The Alchemist, but of course larger donations will be accepted and indeed encouraged.

Once donated, the food items will be taken to Mustard Tree and made available to those in need.

“We love the work that Mustard Tree do,” says Hannah Plumb at The Alchemist.

“It’s a truly fantastic charity tackling food poverty in Manchester which is an issue we’re particularly passionate about at The Alchemist.

“This activity is a fun and engaging way to encourage customers to donate to their local food banks, who are in need of donations now more than ever.”

Bring your food donations (in date and unopened) to Manchester branches of The Alchemist  (Spinningfields, New York Street and MediaCityUK) on Thursday 29th August for your free The Colour Changing One cocktail.
