London Road Fire Station is to host a series of free pop-up events showcasing the work of some of Manchester’s best designers, makers and creators across four dates starting in August.

Made Here at London Road is the first of a series of low-key events in the courtyard and ground floor to introduce people to this iconic space before developer Allied London begins external and internal renovation works later this year.

The building, which has stood empty for 30 years, will be transformed into a vibrant market meets festival, where visitors will be able to marvel at the original features and heritage of the space, as they shop and interact with the city’s design talent.

A collaboration between Allied London, Studio DBD and Jamie Scahill, Made Here will give the public a chance to meet and buy from the people behind some of the finest hand made products in Manchester.

The Engine Room will showcase hand-crafted furniture, clothing, ceramics, prints and more. Out in the courtyard there will be local food and drink producers, workshops for kids and DJs and bands performing throughout the day and into the evening.

“Events at London Road have been curated to create an experience like no other that will invite the public in and reinvigorate this space,” said Lucy Noone from Allied London. “We are re-building the community here with a programme of events and opportunities for distinctive and entrepreneurial businesses that will provide service, quality, design and an experience at Manchester’s new gateway.”

“Made Here is going to be the first ever event to happen at this iconic building so we’re really honoured to be working with Allied London to make it happen,” said event organiser Jamie Scahill. “Manchester has an amazing history of creativity and design and we think it’s important to recognise and promote this.”

13 August/10 September/8 October/12 November 11am – 9pm.
