Anyone experiencing pain, discomfort, redness, sudden changes or flashes of light in their vision can now get advice and treatment from an optician without having to wait for a GP or a hospital appointment.

That’s because Specsavers stores in Manchester can now treat a variety of minor eye conditions including red eye, dry eye, watering eye, blepharitis and floaters in the vision on the same day.

The types of condition treated will vary from store to store with some treating more than others. Help with more complex conditions will be discussed on a case-by-case basis.

And some stores will be offering  eye care for no additional charge, as part of an existing NHS contract.

Optical director for Specsavers in Manchester Arndale, David Bistacchi says: “Specsavers has long been a champion not only of the importance of regular eye tests but of general eye health. We already detect and manage more eye conditions than any other UK opticians. We introduced free digital retinal photography as part of our regular eye examination several years ago, allowing us to detect and monitor many conditions, including glaucoma, diabetes and high blood pressure.

“We are proud to take our clinical expertise a stage further and enhance the level of care we can offer people in Manchester with the added benefit of helping to reduce the pressure on our local GP surgeries and other NHS services.”

Stores across the Greater Manchester region including Bury, Fallowfield, Harpurhey, Hyde, Manchester, Manchester Fort, Ashton-under-Lyne, Eccles, Swinton and Wythenshawe are running eye health clinics.

Appointments can be booked at short notice with availability seven days a week. Contact your nearest store for more information.
