There’s a live stand-up comedy show happening in a Manchester chippy where the audience gets free fritters and chips.

Part of West Didsbury’s inaugural 2020 comedy festival, it will take place for one night only and feature performances from four top local comedians.

Appearing on the night will be Lewis Big Lou Jones, Didsburyite Dan Tiernan, multiple award-winning comedian Roland Gent and BBC New Comedian of the Year 2019 finalist Hannah Platt.

Tickets for the small intimate gig are priced at just £10, and that covers your chippy tea too.

Taking place on Sunday 26th April, it will kick off at 5pm and run through to 7pm.

The new festival will see some big comedy names land in the South Manchester suburb across the April weekender from 24th-26th.

Modelled on the likes of Machynlleth Comedy Festival in mid-Wales and London’s Greenwich Comedy Festival, it will be split across eight venues concentrated within a square mile of each other.

Featuring some of the biggest names in comedy, the festival programme features 50 performers across 30 different shows at various Burton Road venues.

Must-sees include  The Infinite Monkey Cage’s Robin Ince, The Tez O’Clock Show’s Tez Ilyas, Canadian stand-up Tony Law, Taskmaster’s Lou Sanders, legendary musical comedian Boothby Graffoe and the hugely acclaimed Sophie Duker.

Arguably, the line up is the best ever stand-up to feature in Manchester over one single weekend as a mix of TV names, festival favourites and rising stars all make their way to West Didsbury.

Misdiagnosed with schizophrenia aged 25, then re-diagnosed as bipolar 5 years later because he’d become a comedian, Johnny Scott tells the story of his own mental health journey at Volta with his show Delusions on Friday 24th.

Whilst MTV and Hits Radio host and creator of the award-winning comedy podcast A Gay and A Non Gay James Barr will share his hilarious and increasingly desperate attempts to find a boyfriend with audiences the same evening at The Northern.

Speaking on the upcoming festival, Director Kev Rook said: “West Didsbury is the perfect location for us to launch a comedy festival in.

“I’ve lived in and around the area for over a decade and I love its energy, creativity and independent spirit. That ethos fits so well with comedy.

“We have attracted a really special line up and we are hoping to create something a bit magical here. TV names, festival favourites and rising stars in much smaller venues than you’d usually see them, but still with huge atmospheres.”
