The first year of the new decade is well underway, so instead of plodding along doing the same old thing and cooking the same old meals, why not try something a little more exciting and out of the ordinary?

We’re all guilty of it. It’s all too easy to get stuck in a rut, making the same handful of meals every night after work – or even worse, relying on over-priced, poor quality ready meals.

It’s time to shake things up and learn a useful skill, and with the environment looming large in everyone’s thoughts, go for something with a touch of eco-friendly awareness thrown in.

Bhaji Pala, the incredible all-vegan Indian restaurant shaking up the south Manchester food scene, has exactly what you need to help you start the year as you mean to go on. They’re offering a series of in-demand cookery classes at the restaurant, with two cooking courses held on Saturday 29th February and Sunday 1st March.

A couple of tickets could be a perfect gift for couples who want to express their love for each other in the best way possible – through the stomach. Well, to be specific, through the tastebuds then down to the stomach, but who’s counting?

But these classes are useful for everyone, singles included, whether you’re looking to wow a future beau with your culinary skills, or if you’re ‘self-partnered’, Emma Watson-style, and want to cook yourself the very best Indian food around.

Being purely vegan, a cooking course at Bhaji Pala means a cruelty-free dining experience, full of nutritious and sustainable plant-based produce, but with the right level of spices and flavouring to make something truly unforgettable. See it as a gift not only for you but also the future of the planet.

Of course, a fancy meal out can be great once in a while, but looking to the long term, you’ll undoubtedly benefit from having a range of cooking skills in your armoury, courtesy of the experts at Bhaji Pala.

The classes start at 10 am and last for two hours, but the techniques you pick up will benefit you for years. Along with a host of like-minded budding chefs, you’ll learn how to cook three flavour-packed courses, before getting to the best part: eating the results. But be quick, there are only limited spaces available.

If these sessions are anything like our recent visit to Bhaji Pala it’ll be a total sell-out. And for good reason. The food is exceptional and the staff charming, knowledgeable and always keen to help – the perfect combination for a cookery school team.

Best of all, you get to spend a couple of hours at one of the North-West’s most exciting new restaurants, wowing your senses with an array of wild and wonderful spices, before taking home skills you can use again and again.

This year, make a commitment to ditching pre-packaged meals and cutting down on expensive meals out and invest in something that’ll last a lifetime.

Cookery classes are taking place at Bhaji Pala, 2 Old Hall Rd, Gatley, on 29th February and 1st March from 10am-12pm, £50.
