Local poet JB Barrington delivers moving poem for male suicide awareness campaign

Male suicide is at an all time high. In the UK, men are three times more likely to take their own lives than women.

Local poet JB Barrington wrote this poem to encourage men to talk openly about their feelings, either with friends, family, colleagues or through support organisations like The Samaritans.

“If I was sat here with a broken leg
You’d offer to fetch my beer from the bar
But you see me with a broken head
So you mutter down into your beer from afar…”

JB Barrington is a performance poet and Amnesty International slam winner from Salford. He is renown for his searing and satirical poetry and snarling delivery of strong sentiments and sharp rhymes. His sold out show Woodchip Anaglypta and Nicotined Artex Ceilings won the best spoken word award 2014 at the Greater Manchester Fringe.

JB is a spoken word maestro who provides one of the most powerful performances on the scene. He has a distinct and unique style which comes straight from the heart. His poems are about portraying life as it truly is through working class eyes.

His live performances have received glowing reviews and he consistently manages to create a fresh buzz for the spoken word among fans of poetry new and old.
