Thaikhun has certainly made a splash in Spinningfields and the city’s restaurant scene. With Thai food well and truly establishing itself as a favourite with many across the U.K, that looks set to stay. The increased popularity probably stems from college leavers, who make the trip to SouthEast Asia on a gap year.

“Smile, have fun.
One life, live it.
Love it…”

The louder, younger sister of the finer dining and ambient Chaophraya, they offer Thai street food, inspired by vendors in Bangkok and celebrating their successful food businesses.

Once you step in Thaikhun you’re bombarded by a hotchpotch of mementos, which would remind many of their Thai holidays. With street market furniture and an array of lanterns giving the place a vibrant feel, with music beating through the joint.

Celebrating its first birthday yesterday, like any Thai party, the music was blaring more than the usual, with an array of colourful cocktails and Thai tapas to boot kept the party going (until 9pm). The movers and shakers of Manchester and the media made appearances, with Mr Deansgate amongst the crowd.

With enough full moon cocktails to make you see stars, the convivial atmosphere would get anyone pumped up for a full moon party – or the Mancunian equivalent.

The Thai street food venture has gone from strength to strength, building on the popularity of the street food trend that shows no sign of ending they have recently opened sites in the university cities of Oxford and Cambridge.

If there wasn’t already enough to celebrate with Thaikhun, all cocktails are only £5 from 4.30pm-6.30pm everyday; if you fancy a drink or five in the evening sun.
