They say you should never meet your heroes. However, I can happily report that, having now done so, I not only got to meet two fabulous, engaging and passionate women – but got a deliciously full belly out of it too.

The Grosvenor Casino in Salford may seem an unlikely place for an exclusive dining experience hosted by celebrity chefs Angellica Bell and Sophie Faldo.

However, I was one of 70 lucky guests invited to enjoy a three-course dining extravaganza created by Celebrity Masterchef winner Angellica and Great British Bake Off winner Sophie for Grosvenor Casino’s loyal customers.

Angellica – who is every bit as lovely as she comes across on The One Show – took the reigns cooking the starter and main with a team of chefs behind the scenes

Grilled Crottin de Chavignol goats cheese was the first order of the day. Soft and rich chunks of cheese which contrasted excellently with sweet nibbles of pine nuts and brought together by fragrant tastes of home made pesto.

The main dish of the evening was a handsomely large rump of slow braised lamb, marvellously succulent and positively melt-in-the-mouth tender, served atop an artistically served celeriac mash (much lighter than potato with a delicious celery bite) and drenched in a rich velvety jus.

Sophie had pre-prepared over 70 desserts in her kitchen at home and given them a tour of the M6 before delivering them to our seats.

Her Tarte Tatin was nothing short of a sheer delight. Crisp pastry lay the foundation for its syrupy, sweet topping, served with gingerbread mascarpone cream, sable crumb, green apple gel and frosted almonds. All components worked together to create the ultimate indulgence, gloriously light and yet wickedly naughty and full of fantastic flavour.

The passion behind each dish was apparent in every bite. The taste a testament to both chefs’ hard work and love for what they do.

Come back soon.
