Quirky Northern Quarter jazz bar Matt & Phred’s Reviewed

Matt & Phred’s is a long established live music venue, situated in Manchester’s trendy Northern Quarter.
There’s a wonderful cosy atmosphere to Matt and Phred’s. It’s one of those places where whoever you’re with, you constantly find yourselves looking back and forth at one another and smiling in agreement at the joy of seeing incredible music in such a cool little place. You can’t help but nod your head, it’s infectious.

I hear, over the years the likes of Sneaky, Kit Downes, Marius Neset, Manu Delago, the Dagda Quartet, Jamie Cullum and even Adele have graced the stage in the little neighbourhood joint.
Most notably known for showcasing the best in local and international Jazz, Matt & Phred’s offers much, much more.
They have live music gigs 6 nights a week, encompassing the likes of Jazz, Folk, Gypsy, Electro, Salsa, Swing, World and even a little bit of Ska but they’ve also added some early evening extras including, Salsa and Charleston dance classes, a Wine Club evening, a Student Jam and Movie night.
As well as being able to see some amazingly talented musicians, the bar and kitchen team are also at the top of their game. The cocktails are decent. They also have a cracking wine list with featured wines of the month. The pizzas are superb and at weekends they’ve added specials to tantalise your taste buds.
Matt & Phred’s wouldn’t be Matt & Phred’s without Happy Hour! Buy two drinks get a free pizza and two-for-one cocktail offers are available between 6pm – 7pm Monday to Thursday and 5pm – 7.00pm on Fridays.
The diary page on their website lists all of the upcoming events so it’s easy to see what is going on. The gigs are free Monday to Thursday and there is a tiny £5 door charge on Friday and Saturday nights. We highly recommend you book a table for weekend nights as they do get busy and there’s no better way to enjoy the bands whilst being waited on by the fabulous bar team.
Matt & Phred’s is a great local hangout so whether you fancy a pint and a pizza after work, a night out with friends or just fancy dropping in to see what’s going on you won’t be disappointed!
