If there’s one thing we want to eat when the sun comes out, it’s ice cream. While Manchester isn’t exactly known for its beachy weather, it is known for doing things differently and the world’s smallest ice cream van is at intu Trafford Centre today – giving away free ice cream!

It’s part of intu’s pledge to make customers smile, as according to new research revealed this month, eating ice cream makes us all happier.

Ice cream vans bring back memories of sticky fingers and childhood beach holidays but this is a van with a difference. The Nice Cream Van measures just 47 inches long and 39 inches high, proving that good things come in small packages.

The van has a maximum speed of 12mph so you’ll be able to catch up pretty easily when your Mr Frosty fix starts driving off.

Other things on the list we enjoy doing include going on holiday (Bahamas would be nice), taking a trip to the beach (Bahamas again), having a BBQ, watching the sunset and wearing your summer wardrobe. Bahamas works for all of these but Blackpool will have to do this year.

The research also revealed that three quarters of Mancunians feel happier in the summer than they do in the winter, with sunshine, longer days and summer holidays the top three reasons given.

Sadly, this summer has been filled with less BBQ’s and beach trips and more soggy Primark bags and broken brollies, but that’s another story.

Richard Paxton, general manager at intu Trafford Centre, comments: “We’re delighted to have created what we believe is the world’s smallest ice cream van but the real win will be seeing the smiles it puts on people’s faces at intu shopping centres around the country for those lucky enough to get free ice cream.

“We work really hard to create experiences that will surprise and delight our customers and make each individual shopping trip a happier, more memorable one. At intu we have something for everyone and whether you’re someone who loves to shop or a bit more of a last minute panic shopper, we aim to ensure you leave happier than when you arrived.”
