Manchester based runner, Katie Little is urging people who are taking part in the Greater Manchester Marathon this year to run for Parkinson’s UK .

The 26.2 mile event on Sunday 2 April takes runners from Salford, past Old Trafford,   through Sale, Altrincham and Urmston before returning to Salford for the finish.

This is Katie’s first marathon although she has previously taken part in half marathons for Parkinson’s UK.

“My dad has Parkinson’s so it’s a charity that’s close to my heart,” says Katie. “Being able to fundraise whilst completing my first marathon is a great opportunity to support the fantastic work Parkinson’s UK does.

“Being part of the Parkinson’s UK Team Manchester, I feel that I am helping to make a difference and hopefully playing a part in finding a cure for Parkinson’s. I am also hoping there will be plenty of support along the way as I’ll be needing it.

“My training has started and a 9 mile run on Christmas Eve was confirmation of that. I have a training plan with gym sessions in between to prepare. I’ve also read that I can eat more carbs in preparation, which I am very pleased about.

“When I finish I’m sure I will feel a combination of exhaustion, hunger, relief and will definitely have a great sense of achievement.”

Parkinson’s UK aims to raise £25,000 through the event that will help fund their vital work to find better treatments and ultimately a cure for the neurological condition as well as supporting the 127,000 people who are currently living with Parkinson’s across the UK.

Everyone who signs up for the Greater Manchester Marathon will receive fundraising support, as well as a personalised breathable running top.
