Manchester is the second best city in the UK to work, according to one of the world’s biggest job sites.

In Glassdoor’s latest report, the 25 Best UK Towns & Cities to Work In for 2017, Manchester has climbed nine places from last year to secure second spot ahead of Cambridge, last year’s top city, in third place.

Bolton is ranked 9th whilst London doesn’t make the list at all. The number one place to work is Slough, despite not having featured last year.

The list has been compiled by ranking UK towns and cities according to how easy it is to get a job there, how affordable it is to live there, and how satisfied employees are working there.

It includes each town and city’s median pay for employees, current average home value, overall job satisfaction rating, population and number of current job openings.

According to the report, the median base salary in Manchester is £23,998 and the median home value £177,263 – less than half the price of property in Slough.
