There’s only one thing we want to eat on Shrove Tuesday. Yes, pancakes.
Assuming we eat on average two per person, we make a whopping 117 million pancakes each Pancake Day in the UK, using around 52 million eggs – 22 million more than the average day.
Size isn’t everything when it comes to pancakes, but apparently the largest pancake was created in Rochdale in 1994 by the Co-Operative Union Ltd. Measuring 15.01 m (49 ft 3 in) in diameter and 2.5 cm (1 in) thick, the pancake weighed three tonnes (6,614 lb).
You probably won’t find any that big in Manchester this year, but you will find an inspiring selection – from sweet and savoury to free-from or Vietnamese style.
