Since its launch on 22nd October, No.1 Watson Street has firmly planted itself on the Manchester food and drink scene as an ideal after work hangout. We sent Laura Fell to find out more…

Upstairs sister bar, Epernay, has always caught the after work drinks crowd but No.1 Watson Street has definitely not been overlooked. The open, hospitable style makes it the perfect place to relax after a hard day at the office.

“…there’s sure
to be at least
one beer that
will fill your
evening with
hoppiness.”

The one thing you can’t miss about No.1 Watson Street is the colossal concrete bar which acts as a central hub. Behind it, a large, tiled, feature-wall lists every bottled and draught beer in stock. From local brewery beers, lagers, pale ales, stouts and bitters to session IPAs, ciders, fruit beers and even Belgian dubbel, there’s sure to be at least one beer that is guaranteed to fill your evening with hoppiness. Or check out the sharer beers on the menu served in 750ml bottles, a must for the social drinkers amongst us.

If you want signature and classic cocktails, they’ve got them, too (and at a modest £7.50!). Or if a ‘wine-down’ is what you’re looking for, then an exceptional wine list can be enjoyed with good friends in a comfortable, sociable setting.

If you get peckish-and who doesn’t-the guys at No.1 Watson Street have that covered, too. Their small, concise menu consists of nibbles, bar plates, sandwiches, bagels and of, course, pizza! Tuesday to Friday between 5 and 7 you can get your hands on 2-4-1 pizzas. How can you say no to that? At 10” they’re ample sized but if that’s not enough or you want to share with friends, you can order 3 bar plates for just £12.

This place has more to offer than just entertaining the after work crowd. It also makes an excellent meeting point for preSaturday night pizza. With Albert’s Schloss, Revolution De Cuba and a host of all other nightspots in the vicinity, it makes a great place to start your Peter Street night out.

So if you haven’t already been, put No.1 Watson Street on your list! And if you’re down at Great Northern Square to enjoy the ice rink and other Yuletide festivities this year, just take your skate receipt into the restaurant and get 10% off your bill. Merry Christmas, Manchester!
