Thousands of people across Trafford are turning to their local community hubs for vital support as the cost-of-living crisis continues to bite.

New figures reveal that nearly 16,000 residents received help from Trafford’s six community hubs – located in Altrincham, Old Trafford, Partington, Sale, Stretford, and Urmston – between 2024 and 2025.

Trafford community hubs

Set up during the Covid pandemic in March 2020, the hubs were originally launched by voluntary organisations working with Trafford Council. Since then, they’ve evolved into a crucial support network for residents of all ages, adapting to the ongoing challenges faced by communities across the borough.

In the last 12 months, the hubs have provided help for 15,859 residents.

They have distributed 3,257 food bank vouchers, helped provide £120,000 in Household Support Fund money to 1,840 households, made 1,461 financial support referrals, 288 Housing Support referrals and 921 training referrals, helped 35,854 residents participate in support programmes and organised activities for more than 250,000 residents.

Whether it’s help with heating bills, job training, housing issues, or simply finding a warm space and a friendly face, the hubs offer a lifeline.

Each hub provides a welcoming, non-judgmental space, offering practical support and a listening ear. From helping people maximise their income, improve their wellbeing, or gain skills for employment, to offering emergency food and tackling loneliness, the hubs are there to help.

Tom Ross, Trafford Council Leader

Trafford Council Leader Tom Ross praised the work being done: “The community hubs around Trafford are an absolute lifeline to all the families and individuals struggling to make ends meet across the borough.

They are as invaluable today as they were during Covid and a huge asset to all our communities.

The hubs provide a safe space for people to gain the help and support they need in a wide variety of areas.

I am not surprised that they continue to be such a success. Well done to everyone involved in the six hubs – you are all heroes doing a fantastic job.”

Anyone living in Trafford can reach out to the hubs for support – no referral needed.

Whether you’re facing financial difficulty, looking for training opportunities, or just need someone to talk to, the doors are open.
