There aren’t any more long Bank Holiday weekends until May, but there’s plenty to keep you entertained in Manchester this weekend. The Northern Vegan Festival will see Manchester Central filled with 200 stalls as well as inspirational talks and demos. Channel your inner Gladiator at Gung-ho!, a 5km obstacle course packed with huge inflatables, and fashion fans can learn more about influential 1970s illustrator Antonio Lopez at HOME.
Northern Vegan Festival
Due to the massive success of the 2017 event, The Northern Vegan Festival 2018 will return to Manchester Central this Saturday. Expect 200 stalls, 10 world food caterers, inspirational talks, innovative and exciting cookery demos, children’s activities, yoga, free samples and a huge seated cafe area. Entry is £5 payable on the day on the door (under 16’s free) and 100% of ticket money goes to animal welfare charities as the festival is fully volunteer run, or it’s £15 for advance fast track tickets to include a goody bag packed full of products, samples and discounts. 10.30am – 5pm, Saturday 7th April, Manchester Central.
Fans of Total Wipeout, Gladiators and It’s a Knockout will love Gung-Ho!, a 5km with a difference. Heaton Park will be filled with giant mazes, walls, gauntlets and slides for contestants to conquer in a giant inflatable obstacle course this weekend. Challenges include the biggest inflatable slide in Europe, a giant ball pit, and the biggest single piece inflatable obstacle in the world. Tickets from £50. Saturday 7th April, Heaton Park.
Sex, Fashion & Disco
A new film playing at HOME from this Friday, Sex, Fashion & Disco is an intimate portrait of Antonio Lopez, the most influential fashion illustrator of the 1970s. Featuring interviews with Vogue veteran Grace Coddington, Jessica Lange, photographer Bill Cunningham and many more, the film follows Antonio’s rise to fame at a time when fashion designers and their entourages became the rock stars. Director James Crump also explores the intimate relationship between Antonio and Karl Lagerfeld, while unpacking Lagerfeld’s deep-seated rivalry with Yves Saint Laurent. From Friday 6th April.
