Spring is in the air, so we’ve chosen three plant-based things to see and do this weekend.
You can eat them at Vegan Life Live, watch them at HOME, and get a free one at Lunya. Read on for more details.
And don’t forget Saturday 21 April is Record Store day – an opportunity to celebrate new tunes as well as limited edition re-releases in one of the best music cities in the country.
Share the love at Lunya
St George isn’t just the patron saint of England. He’s the patron saint of Catalonia, too. But they call him St Jordi. He’s also the patron saint of lovers. In Catalonia, St Jordi’s Day is a day of love, with couples exchanging gifts of books and flowers. To celebrate this tradition, Lunya, Manchester’s authentic, independent Catalan restaurant, bar and deli is giving away a book and a flower to couples dining there from Saturday 21st April to Monday 23rd April. Couples just need to tell their server that they are celebrating St Jordi’s Day and they will receive a rose and a Relish cook book, which features recipes from some of the leading restaurants across the region – including Lunya.
The Tiger Lillies: Corrido de la Sangre

Part of HOME’s ¡Viva! Spanish & Latin American Festival 2018, Corrido de la Sangre combines stunning visuals with original music from Grammy-nominated avant-garde music trio, The Tiger Lillies. A story of intrigue, vengeance and romance gone wrong featuring a fantastic blend of Day of the Dead folklore and reality. It’s high art cabaret meets sordid depravity and it’s a world premiere. What more could you want? Opens Friday 20 April and runs until 5 May 2018 at HOME.
Vegan Life Live
Everybody’s going vegan these days. Well, not quite everybody, but more than 3.5 million British people identify as vegan. And with more than 50 million vegan posts on Instagram, it’s not just popular, it’s big business too. The team behind Vegan Life magazine are bringing Vegan Life Live, a lifestyle show combined with a foodie festival, to Manchester this weekend. Whether you’re vegan or not, it’s an opportunity to try animal-free eating, with talks by experts who are sure to prove there’s more to vegan food than tofu and mung beans. And you can even enjoy three shows for the price of one, as entry to Vegan Life Live also gets you into the Mind Body Soul Experience and OM Yoga Show taking place at the same venue. Sunday 22 April, 10am-5pm, EventCity. Tickets £7.50.
