This weekend is Easter Bank Holiday. For some people that means chocolate or church, but only one features on this list of things to do – and it’s not church. If you plan on binge eating mini-eggs, that’s up to you. But there’s plenty going on around the city that won’t leave you in a coco-coma. The Manchester Duck Race, an Easter egg hunt at Dunham Massey and a vintage swing party are just three reasons to leave home this weekend.
Manchester Duck Race
You’ve not seen it all until you’ve seen the Manchester Duck Race. Watch as thousands of little rubber ducks race down the Irwell. It costs a quid to buy a duck and enter it into the race and all proceeds go to local children’s charity, Brainwave. With over 25,000 visitors expected, the duck race celebrations will take place on both sides of the river at Spinningfields and New Bailey. Expect plenty of family fun, fairground rides, food stalls and even a petting farm. There will also be surprise celebrity guests announcing winners. Put on your lucky underpants and get involved. Friday 14 April 2017 from 11am. First race at 2pm.
Easter Egg Hunt at Dunham Massey and Lyme Park
Nothing says Easter like a good old fashioned Easter Egg hunt. If you fancy a walk in the great outdoors and the chance of winning yourself a Easter egg or two then this one’s for you. Cadbury’s are planting clues around some of the National Trust’s prettiest properties, including Lyme Park and Dunham Massey. If you’ve got kids, or you’re a bit of a big kid yourself, head down to this hunt for choccy prizes and plenty of other good stuff. Beats buying your eggs from Tesco that’s for sure.
Easter Sunday Vintage Swing
If you’re not a fan of bunnies or chocolate but you are a fan of swing, then this event on Easter Sunday is for you. The Easter Vintage Swing festival will liven up The Printworks for the fourteenth consecutive year with live performances from Jackson Sloan as well as vintage stalls, classic cocktails and plenty of hearty good grub. Can’t dance? No problem. There will be free dance classes on offer courtesy of Katz Korner Dance Company and a vintage car show. So whip out your dancing shoes, grab your best 40s outfit and join the gang for an afternoon of wartime revelry. There’ll be face painting and an Easter egg hunt to keep the kids entertained too. Free.
