Christmas is right around the corner so it’s about time you started thinking about doing some shopping for presents. If you want to miss the last-minute December dash, then start early at the Etsy independent Christmas Market this weekend. If you’d rather dodge anything that’s even the slightest bit Christmassy then head down to The Laundrette where you’ll get a complementary glass of prosecco as you wish them Happy Birthday. It’s their 1st birthday this weekend.
And there’s another first for Manchester – the world’s first ever DJ set in a drained canal lock chamber.
In no particular order, here’s this weekend’s three to see.
Grab your parkas for a rave in the canal
Lock 91 on the Rochdale Canal is becoming a club for one night only. On Friday 1st December between 6pm-9pm, local DJ Just Jane will be playing a set of Hacienda club classics to revellers 14ft down inside a drained lock chamber in a drained lock chamber (lock 91) on the Rochdale Canal in the city centre. If you’re a music lover but not one for a party below the waterline, on Saturday a local choir will be singing Christmas carols in the lock. Both events take place along the towpath near Deansgate by Whitworth Street West in the city centre and are part of the first ever canal open weekend in Manchester organised by the Canal & River Trust. Entry is on the towpath between lock 91 and 92. Tickets are available on entry and are first come, first served. More information on the event and the open weekend can be found here.
Etsy Made Local Christmas Market
Etsy is in Manchester at the People’s History Museum from this weekend. If you’re looking for unique, personalised, one-of-a-kind Christmas gifts then you needn’t look anywhere else really. There’ll be artisans and designer-makers who put their heart and soul into everything they make as well as guest appearances from local musicians and a fab Winter Warmer launch night this Friday. One not to be missed. Click here for more.
Beach House Brunch at The Laundrette
Weekend is the time to enjoy a lie-in, relax, and enjoy some good food and drink. If a bottomless brunch isn’t a good reason to get out of bed on a morning, we don’t know what is. This Sunday you can look forward to an artsy brunch that pays tribute to Ibiza sunsets and warmer weather. Expect everything from expertly-crafted comfort food like truffle mac ’n cheese to brunching staples of fluffy maple pancakes and smoked salmon bagels. Drinkwise, you can spend the day sipping on classic concoctions or, if you’re feeling a little more adventurous, there’s a smattering of less common drinks like Rasberri Flossi or Love Juice. As part of the First Street Christmas campaign the Laundrette is offering an extra 10% discount to anyone holding a ticket from the ice rink. Whether you’re celebrating the weekend with cosmos or comfort food, The Laundrette has something for every tastebud, sweet tooth and cocktail craving.
