This luxury 5-star hotel is offering complimentary room upgrades to lovers this Valentine’s

A complimentary upgrade is a guaranteed way to make you feel extra special when you check into a hotel. So much so that whole sections of the internet are dedicated to helping crafty guests figure out the best way to wangle one.

This Valentine’s, one city centre hotel is taking it a step further.

The Lowry Hotel is making a room upgrade complimentary for all couples checking in with them over Valentine’s weekend when they book the ultimate romantic mini-break package.

No need to spin a long yarn about how it’s your anniversary or you’re celebrating a babymoon here, then. The Lowry has you covered already.

Simply book your Valentine’s Day stay package for one deluxe room with them between 14th and 16th February and they’ll upgrade you to one of their superior riverside rooms – completely free of charge.

Kitted out with fluffy bathrobes just waiting to be worn and a large, comfy king size bed, the superior riverside rooms are perfect for taking time to reconnect with your loved one.

For the all-inclusive price of £229, you’ll also be treated to a sumptuous four-course Valentine’s dinner with champagne and a full English breakfast in the acclaimed River Restaurant on the morning of your departure.

We’ve peeked at their Valentine’s menu already and it looks indulgent, to say the least.

Starter options include pan-fried scallops with Thai green puree, mango and spiced cauliflower; chicken liver parfait with caramelised white onion and toasted sourdough, or Jerusalem artichoke and truffle soup served with a brioche croute – followed by a brief intermediary of prosecco sorbet to cleanse your palate before tucking into the mains.

Choices range from hearty to light, with flavour at the forefront whether you want to stuff yourself silly or leave some room for later.

Those looking to go all out have the option to order a Lamb Cannon Wellington to share, served with chicken farce (a stuffing made of meat pureed with egg, bread, cream) and lamb fat-braised carrots; or tuck into a solo portion of roast Penrith chicken breast – accompanied by roast leek, king oyster mushroom and truffle veloute.

Or those after something a little lighter can enjoy pan-fried red mullet in a fennel and saffron broth with almond aioli and homemade rosemary crisps, or a filo roulade with vegan black pudding, roast squash, feta cheese and walnut, tender stem broccoli and a red pepper puree.

Valentine’s meals are all about the sweets, so it’s only right that there’s a sharing option here too. Tuck into their banana tarte tatin together (served with honeycomb and rum and raisin ice cream), or go it solo with their passion fruit and lime cheesecake, which comes topped with caramelised white chocolate ice cream.

If sweet desserts aren’t for you, there’s also a selection of county cheese with chutney and crackers to round off your meal.

Staying at The Lowry is a treat in itself. But if you’re looking for ways to make your stay even more special, the hotel has plenty of little extras on offer to help you to create an intimate experience.

How about setting the scene for your stay with a rose petal turndown? After all, we’ve all seen the honeymoon scenes with real red rose petals laid out in the shape of a heart on the bed – and it certainly seems to add a touch of magic. This can be arranged whilst you’re away from the room as a wonderful way to surprise your love or as part of your arrival welcome.

Lovers can also upgrade to enjoy an indulgent champagne breakfast together, with the option to take your eggs in bed or in the restaurant. Either way, you can relax over a glass of bubbles, sample the continental breakfast and indulge in a breakfast a la carte dish each to get your day off to a truly romantic start.

Other enticing extras include champagne and strawberries on arrival (with a choice between Laurent-Perrier Rose or the hotel’s house fizz), and 12 of the finest Naomi red roses delivered to your room by their very own in house florist.

Enjoy your own romantic oasis at The Lowry this Valentine’s Day.
