The benefits of taking some time to do a bit of team building are numerous: from increased motivation, positivity and collaboration, to improving communication, offering positive reinforcement and generally encouraging creativity between colleagues.

There’s nothing like taking time out of the working day to break out of the office and switch up your team’s normal dynamic for something a bit different and (dare we say it) more fun, too.

Challenge-style activities are often popular for these sorts of team building days: a bit of crazy golf, an escape room game or perhaps a spot of axe-throwing.

There’s lots of this going on in Manchester if you’re the competitive sort looking to show off.

At the other end of the spectrum is the ‘just going for a curry and a few drinks at the pub’ attitude to team building. Not that we don’t love a nice dinner and a few drinks out together, but it kind of misses the objective. After all, it’s not exactly pushing anyone out of their comfort zone, is it?

So if you’re not keen to hurl yourself around all afternoon playing a game, but don’t just want to do the same old thing of going out for dinner together on the company purse, we’ve got a suggestion that sits somewhere in the middle.

Why not try your hand at a cookery class and enjoy the best of both worlds? Start with a collaborative or competitive exercise and finish up with a delicious meal.

Food Sorcery offer bespoke team building experiences with a difference at their cookery and barista school in West Didsbury. Whether you’re interested in popping in for a few hours in the afternoon or evening, or booking in for a full day, the school is completely flexible to your needs and offers you the opportunity to design a completely bespoke team building event to suit individual skill levels and any unique needs or requirements.

The school is sensitive to balancing your day to ensure that there’s fun and laughter throughout, and that whilst you’re cooking you’re not too hungry to enjoy the experience. This means if you start in the morning, there may be a pause for breakfast butties and barista-style coffee. Or if you arrive after work you’re likely to be welcomed with canapés and a glass of something refreshing. After all, the pleasure of tucking in to your feast together is the ultimate reward and you wouldn’t want to ruin this by being too Hank Marvin when you sit down to enjoy it.

Led by one of Food Sorcery’s experienced, fully-trained professional chefs, you and your team will learn how to prepare a menu of your choice with additional options to learn further skills such as cocktail making if you’re, say, in for the night and looking to get a little bit boozy with it. The school provides all the ingredients (unless you fancy doing a spot of foraging), and will even sort out the washing up, so all you and the team need to do is turn up with a positive attitude and be ready to get stuck in.

Each event is designed to be collaborative, creative and inclusive for all involved: ensuring that everyone has a great time no matter what their cooking ability going into the class. If you know there’ll be that one team member silently cursing that they’re not enjoying the usual ‘team-building’ curry, you can easily solve this by requesting it as part of your special menu. By the end of your team building, not only will they be happy they’ve had their curry but perhaps they’ll also leave having learnt the skills to make it for themselves at home.

Not only can this style of activity improve working relationships between your team, it’s also been proven that people make healthier food choices when they understand the basics of cooking. So why not help your team bring their best selves to work, simply by helping them to make healthier food choices. If your company happens to have a set of workplace wellness goals, then you can even tailor your team building session with the school to focus on achieving these objectives.

Food Sorcery offer a selection of healthy cooking team building events, with menus created by an integrated nutritionist and chef team, who will couple the basics of cooking delicious healthy food with why it’s important to do so: simple!

Food Sorcery will tailor everything to your specific needs, so whether you’re after a specifically collaborative focus – or a competitive one – rest assured they’ll be more than happy to deliver a specific itinerary to suit you. There’s plentiful parking available and break out spaces for conferences or meetings as well as spa and hotel facilities handy for winding down at the end of the day.

If you and the team are keen foodies, you’ll be enamoured with their team building packs which give you the chance to develop your cooking skills together and have fun doing it too. Sound up your street? Get in touch with the school for a no-obligation chat and consultation today.
