The Great Northern Warehouse has brought something to Manchester city centre that it was famously lacking. A beach. Well, a giant sandpit at least.
Yes, they’ve installed a fully-fledged, family-friendly sand pit – complete with a giant sandpit no less – in the basin of the iconic amphitheatre for the summer.
The fun and free community sandpit will be open for six weeks with 50 tonnes of beach-washed sand and logs for everyone to enjoy – perfect for killing time and burning off some hyperactive energy during the summer holidays.
As part of the summer stunt, Great Northern have teamed up with On the Beach to give away a fab prize to one lucky Manchester sunseeker.

All you need to do is snap a selfie and share it on social media, tagging in On the Beach, and you can be in with a chance of winning a holiday voucher worth £1,000.
“We’re thrilled to launch this exciting addition to the Great Northern’s family offering this summer,” said centre director Mark Schofield.
“We look forward to welcoming children to enjoy safe, free play over the school holidays.”
When the sun goes down, the Great Northern is the perfect evening destination for families. Watch this summer’s must-see movie, Incredibles 2 at the state-of-the-art multiplex Odeon cinema – don’t forget to validate your parking ticket at the cinema to allow you to stay for up to four hours for only £2 – or perfect your bowling skills at All Star Lanes.
