Book of Mormon fans queued around the block from 5am this morning for tickets for the award-winning musical which opens at The Palace Theatre next week.

A limited number of tickets costing just £15 were released at the theatre box office this morning at 10am for a special preview show on June 5th. Fans hurried to get to the front of the queue this morning as the tickets were expected to go quicky.

Videos shared from the Book of Mormon UK’s Twitter show fans lining up from the box office entrance on Oxford Street all the way round the corner to Whitworth Street, leading on to Atwood Street.

The rain certainly wasn’t enough to put off these fans, with one keen queuer sharing a picture of the crowd huddled under umbrellas and waterproof jackets.

For those who missed out today, fear not. There will be 15 £15 tickets available for each show from 6th June to be sold through a ‘ticket lottery’ before each performance. Again, they will only be available to purchase in person at the box office with names drawn at random two hours before curtain call.

The production starts a nine-week run at The Palace Theatre on Thursday, the first time it has been performed in the UK outside of London.

The Book of Mormon follows a pair of Mormon boys sent on a mission to a place that’s a long way from their home in Salt Lake City. However, the villagers are more worried about much pressing issues such as AIDs, famine and warfare. Understandably.

Since making its world premiere in March 2011 at New York’s Eugene O’Neill Theatre, where it won nine Tony® Awards, including Best Musical, The Book of Mormon has been performed on three continents and won over thirty international awards. The musical has smashed long-standing box office records in New York, London, Melbourne, Sydney and cities across the U.S.

This outrageous comedy comes from Trey Parker, Matt Stone and Robert Lopez, the creators of South Park, and has done so well it is now in its 22nd season.

The London production opened at the Prince of Wales theatre in 2013 and broke the record for the highest single day sales in West End history. Since then, The Book of Mormon has sold out every one of its 2583 performances to date.

The Book of Mormon is at The Palace Theatre from Thursday 6th June until August 10th.
