This week is Breakfast Week. It’s the most important meal of the day but the one we neglect the most. It doesn’t have to be about sugar-laden cereal and soggy toast. A good breakfast is a celebration of great grub which can kick start the day. Food which gives you hugs in mugs and brimming bowls. Whether you want something to power you through the day, feed a cold, help a hangover, or something just damn comforting – a good breakfast can’t be beat. Whether it’s a quick bite or a special occasion, here’s Emily Oldfield’s selection of places to grab a great breakfast, one for every day of the week.

Monday: On-the-go, good for you at Pita Pit

They seem to make the morning easy and effortless here. Breakfast can be all in one beverage – take their Green Tea Latte as an ultimate detox drink, whilst fresh juices are blended and bottled onsite.  Some fine food awaits for when you’re ready and they conveniently serve a brunch menu all day!  It strikes the perfect balance of healthiness and home comfort. Try the big flavours of their banana bread, beautiful loaded bagels (with veggie options available) and Eggs Benedict. So much choice and plenty of time to chew over it at Federal.

Sunday: The complete cure at The Koffee Pot

Now in bigger premises on Oldham Street, The Koffee Pot are ready to serve you the caffeine fix and fry up (cotton wool food) you need at breakfast after a night on the pop. Hair of the dog? These guys have also got an alcohol licence and are making the most of it by serving bottled beers and even prosecco (!) along with their speciality Great British fry ups. Not only do they offer full English, Scottish and Irish breakfasts (so be prepared for black pudding, white pudding, haggis and lorne sausage galore), but also vegetarian and vegan options, too. Throw in the wallet-friendly prices and it’s easy to see why you’ll need sharp elbows and a keen eye to bag a table at the weekend.
