Cake cafe chain Patisserie Valerie has confirmed the closure of a number of its Manchester outlets today after the company went into administration.

The company also owns the Druckers cafe brand, and its large cafe inside the Arndale Centre has also now closed.

The joint administrators of Patisserie Holdings plc have confirmed the closure of a number of loss-making branches, including 27 Patisserie Valeries and 19 Druckers across the UK.

In Manchester, it has meant the closure of four Patisserie Valerie cafes – the large site on the corner of Deansgate, inside Next in Barton Square at the Trafford Centre, at Manchester Fort shopping centre on Cheetham Hill and in Bury.

But the Patisserie Valerie on Oxford Street near the Palace Theatre in Manchester remains open for business.

The closures have resulted in 920 redundancies across the UK.

In a statement, the joint administrators and their team said they continue to provide all necessary support and assistance to those employees who have lost their jobs, including providing them with the information needed to apply for monies owed from the Redundancy Payments Service.

The remaining 122 outlets will continue to trade while the administrators seek a buyer for the business.

David Costley-Wood, partner at KPMG and joint administrator, said: “Since our appointment less than 24 hours ago, we have been pleased with the level of interest we have received in the business, and so remain hopeful of achieving a positive outcome.

“In the meantime, we can reassure customers that across the remaining 122 stores, it is all but business as usual.”
