Manchester Camerata – The Bridgewater Hall

Kick off 2019 with Manchester Camerata’s annual Viennese Gala. The concert will feature Waldteufel’s The Skater’s Waltz, Adele’s Laughing Song from Strauss’ Die Fledermaus,  Dvořák’s Slavonic Dances No.8 & No.2, and Strauss’ Blue Danube Waltz. Ailish Tynan, one of the nation’s most loved sopranos will also be making a welcome return. Wet Play & Microdosing at Partisan

One for hardcore ravers and misbehavers. Funky arts and social space Partisan are hosting Wet Play and Microdosing’s joint 10-hour party.  Skip the family meal as the party kicks off  early on New Year’s Day at 2pm and finishes at midnight. Microdosing’s sound system will be raising the roof upstairs while Wet Play Pals and special guests get down and dirty in the basement. Expect acid, disco, electronic and house tunes.

New Year’s Day Charity Swim at Salford Quays

Dive into the ice cold waters of Salford Quays and do things completely differently on January 1st. Cleanse yourself of last year’s sins and go into 2019 refreshed and hangover- free, whilst doing your bit for charity. Take part in the Uswim swim course or just have a splash around with your mates in water temperatures as low as 7 degrees C. But don’t worry too much because you can choose your own wetsuit or skin. New Year’s Day Run – Hyde Park

Dust off your gym gear and take a running jump into 2019 with this New Year’s Day park run in Hyde Park. No, not the one in London. This one’s in Tameside. It kicks off at 10.30am, with the option to complete two park runs in one day – the only day of the year  this is allowed. If running isn’t your thing, they also need volunteers for the event too so you could be cheering on runners from the sidelines.

Wicked – The Palace Theatre

The not-so-wicked witch is back at the Palace Theatre as part of this award-winning production of Wicked. The reimagined story of two sorcery students living in the Land of Oz – Glinda the good witch and Elphaba the green witch, better known as the Wicked Witch of the West.
