“Oldham are going up!!”

Oldham Athletic Football Club have been promoted to the Football League. They beat Southend United 3–2 in a dramatic National League final at Wembley Stadium, bringing a huge wave of joy and pride to Oldham.

Fans from across the town made the trip to London. They cheered every pass, tackle and goal. Some fans even came from as far as Australia to watch their beloved club.

As the final whistle blew, the celebrations began. Some fans cried tears of joy. Others hugged and sang together.

What the promotion means to Oldham people

It has been a tough journey for Oldham. The club was relegated from the Football League in 2022 after years of struggle. Many feared for its future. But the players and the fans never gave up.

Chairman Frank Rothwell said the victory is a proud moment for the town.

He told Sky Sports: “It’s not just about football. It’s about bringing the community together. That’s what we’ve done.”

Manager Micky Mellon praised the players’ fighting spirit. “I’m speechless. Football… this is what it’s all about if you’re on the winning side of it. I’m elated. My players have been unbelievable. What a day – it will never leave you, this day,” he told DAZN.

In pubs and living rooms across Oldham, people shared the moment together. Streets filled with the sound of singing and horns. Banners and scarves flew high.

For many, this win is about more than just a game. It is a sign that Oldham is strong again. Families who have supported the club for generations feel a sense of pride and belonging.

“One of the best days of my life!” says born and bred Oldham fan, Jake Coombs (pictured).

“We never do anything easy. From heartbreak to a moment I’ll treasure forever. We’re back where we belong, baby!!”

Oldham Athletic have given the town something to smile about. The club is back where it belongs. Oldham is back in the Football League. And the people of Oldham are back together as one.

“Everyone was crying and hugging,” says life-long Oldham fan, Lucy Haynes. “And I’ve never been so happy to see so many people in tears!”

Party at the Park

Fans partied it up at Boundary Park on Monday night, with the club throwing a huge family-friendly event with live music, food stalls, and activities for all ages.
