Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has launched a Christmas box campaign to encourage us all to support the city’s homeless community.

The Reds striker and England international launched his In-the-Box charity campaign to support some of Manchester’s biggest homeless shelters including Barnabus, Centrepoint, Lifeshare and Shelter.

Members of the public are encouraged to fill a shoebox of essential items to be distributed to adults in greater need over the festive period.

Wythenshawe-raised Marcus has partnered with Selfridges on Exchange Square – where you can drop your filled boxes – to bolster the campaign this year.

The box drop is located on the first floor in menswear and will be manned from midday till 6pm until December 20th.

Marcus said: “Last Christmas I prepared and delivered some gifting boxes around Manchester for those in need, with the help of my family.

“It was one of the most gratifying moments of the year, so when planning activity this time around I was adamant that we would reach more people in a more effective way.

“I’m excited to have Selfridges Manchester Exchange partner with me on the project for Christmas 2019 to help achieve this.”

21-year-old Marcus, who joined United after showing early promise at just five years old and played for Fletcher Moss Rangers Junior Football Club, said it was important for him to support a cause in his home city at Christmas time.

He said: “I’m extremely proud of where I’m from. I love this city and appreciate all of the support the city has given me over the years so this is my opportunity to help out those that might not otherwise have the best Christmas.

“I’m hoping lots of people will want to get involved too so we can make a real impact together”.
