Great food, great atmosphere and great location. Mano a Bocca is everything an Italian restaurant should be.

Perched on the edge of the Bridgewater Canal riverfront in Sale, Mano a Bocca serves up some of the tastiest pizza we’ve had in years. And the name – it translates as ‘hand to mouth’ and is just how pizza should be eaten.

The restaurant’s location makes this the perfect spot for summer. Cocktails in the sun with a slice of heaven in your hand? Well if you insist…

Italian artistic cool is evident throughout the interior design, with the cosy bar area showcasing original street photography from the Eternal City, and a series of large film posters (purchased on a reconnaissance mission to Rome) from esteemed directors such as Dario Argento running along the curved restaurant wall.

The beautiful dining room is set up for all occasions, with lovely glass doors offering a great view of the busy restaurant. There are also four large 10-seater round tables, for families to really socialise and dine in the Italian way – you know chatting, munching on pizza, sharing (…maybe).

A wide-open kitchen is nestled in the corner, so you can keep a close eye on your food’s journey to your table (it’s okay, everyone does it).

With a menu dedicated to real Italian flavours, you’re in for quite a treat. Thin crust pizza made from super soft dough, with just the right amount of sauce – true Romana style.

Choose from traditional pizzas such as the Salsiccia & Friarielli, with Italian sausage and wild broccoli topped with smoked mozzarella and fior di latte, or Mano a Bocca’s own personal creations like the Calabria, with ‘Nduja sausage, crushed potatoes, goat’s cheese and Calabrian chillis. Or there’s an amazing vegan pizza with tender-stem charred broccoli on a butternut squash base, with red onion and chickpeas.

But it’s not all crust and dough, for Mano a Bocca are serving some Italian classics, too.

Dig into a wonderfully roasted Aubergine Parmigiana, or stick traditional with a hearty Rigatoni Bolognese. Either way, your tastebuds will thank you.

And fret not, dairy-free foodies, for Mano a Bocca also offers vegan cheese at a small additional charge. So you can get your pizza fix AND enjoy the phenomenal sensation of stringy cheese landing on your chin as you eat (you know you love it).

For those of you with a sweet tooth, this cute little bistro has a fab dessert menu too, including homemade tiramisu, tangy sorbet, and several flavours of vegan ice cream.

What’s more, this beautiful restaurant is situated just below the Waterside Arts Centre, making Mano a Bocca the perfect place for some pre or post-theatre pizza (and drinks, of course). It’s easy to get to, too – catch a quick tram to Sale and you’ll be eating amazing pizza before you know it.

Don’t fancy getting out of your PJs? No worries, they deliver too. Check them out on Deliveroo.
