The top 10 pizza restaurants in the UK have been revealed by TripAdvisor – and Manchester restaurants have claimed the top two spots.

The ranking is based on the reviews and opinions of TripAdvisor diners, taking into account the quality and quantity of reviews.

Rudy’s Neapolitan Pizza claimed top spot after a raft of positive reviews, with diners claiming it serves “the best pizza outside of Naples”.

“Perfect”, “amazing” and “best pizza in Manchester” were just some of the comments.

Rudy’s provides an authentic slice of Naples in the heart of Ancoats, Manchester’s former Little Italy. Their new branch on Peter Street has proved equally popular.

Fourteen-inch pizzas made from dough prepared on-site daily are cooked for just 60 seconds in the wood-fired oven, giving them a light, chewy base. Pizzas on the concise menu are available either ‘white’ or with a San Marzano tomato sauce, and toppings include Tuscan sausage and friarielli (Italian wild broccoli) or Napoli salami.

In 2016, Rudy’s pizza was named among the best in the world, according to the international guidebook, Where to Eat Pizza – one of only two pizza restaurants in the north west to be included (the other was Honest Crust in Altrincham Market – now also available at Mackie Mayor).

It’s one of our top restaurants – and the pizzas are popular with Manchester chefs, too.

In the latest edition of the best-selling and critically acclaimed restaurant guide Where Chefs Eat, edited by critic Joe Warwick, Adam Reid at The French picked Rudy’s for its great value for money.

When we asked chefs earlier this year where they like to eat when they’re off-duty, Sax Arshad of Zanna Group – which includes Evelyn’s and The Daisy in the Northern Quarter – also praised Rudy’s pizzas and the restaurant’s hospitality.

Coming second on the TripAdvisor list of the UK’s best pizza restaurants is Double Zero 00 Neapolitan Pizza in Chorlton, rated “excellent” by 87% of diners.

The Barlow Moor Road restaurant is named after the 00 grade given to the finest milled grain on the Italian flour scale.

It was praised for its “amazing pizza” and “friendly staff”, with one diner describing it as “out of this world”.

“Double Zero is epic,” said head chef of recently closed restaurant Manchester House, Nathaniel Tofan when we asked chefs where they like to eat out.

“Seriously good pizza, and you can bring your own booze. Love this place, and so affordable.”

The other restaurants in the UK top ten include Paesano in Glasgow, The Oven Pizzeria in Bath, The White Rabbit in Oxford, Dough Pizza Restaurant in Bath, Civerinos in Edinburgh, The Real Italian Pizza Co in Bath, Crust in Liverpool and Calabrisella in Cardiff .
