If the past few months have taught us anything, it’s the importance of a good haircut.

Months away from a barber saw many of us try to hack at our own locks, leading to some truly shocking hairdos – or hair-don’ts, rather.

And now that lockdown measures are eased and we can begin to go out for socially-distanced drinks and meals, it’s vital to look our best.

This is where the London School of Barbering comes in.

Alongside two London academies, they have a Manchester base in the very centre of the city on Fountain Street, a few short steps from Market Street

This state-of-the-art barbershop, LSB Manchester is where the region’s up-and-coming male hairdressers come to learn their trade, taught by the country’s very best barbers.

Across these three locations, they offer around 300 haircut appointments every single day – 100 in Manchester alone – and since launching in 2012 they’ve earned an outstanding 4.9 star rating on Google, coming from over 2000 reviews.

The price for a cut? We’re talking single figures, ranging from £3 to £8 – astonishingly low compared to every single other barber in the city centre.

This is because the barbers are in the latter stages of being assessed for a formal NVQ qualification before they set out on their own. These trainees undergo months of rigorous training, guided by the UK’s top hairstylists to ensure you get the exact cut you want, the way you want it.

And it’s even more of a bargain this summer for I Love MCR readers, as you can get yourself a FREE cut in August or September using the booking link below.

Thanks to lockdown, I’ve been sporting an unwieldy, shaggy mop for months, so I head over for a morning appointment at the Manchester Fountain Street branch.

The first thing to note is that here, safety is paramount. There’s a temperature check on the way in and all stylists wear both face masks and visors to make sure any risk of infection is next to zero.

But this doesn’t intrude on the overall experience. It’s easy to discuss with my stylist, 23-year-old Danny, about what needs doing and listen to his expert advice on what style would suit me best.

The atmosphere inside is up there with any modern barbershop. There’s a buzz in the air: a mixture of upbeat, friendly banter combined with laser-focused professionalism from everyone involved.

The cut itself? It’s easily up there with the best I’ve ever had, no different from the very best high-end barbers in Manchester, apart from costing a fraction of the price – and costing nothing at all this summer with the exclusive I Love MCR offer.

Not only that, I also walk away with a head full of useful tips and tricks to keep my barnet looking in tip-top condition.

When it comes to male haircuts, it’s no exaggeration to say LSB Manchester is the city’s best-kept secret.

The value is superb, the quality is as good as it gets, and there’s even the feelgood factor that you’re helping the next generation of young British barbers fine-tune their trade.

And although LSB Manchester focuses on male hairstyles, women are welcome so long as they choose a cut from the short styles on the menu.

I Love MCR readers can snap up a totally FREE cut this August and September by booking below. Best be quick, though.
