The invasion of Ukraine by Russia in 2022 shocked the world. Yet for those living in Donbas and Crimea, the harsh reality of war has loomed since 2014, foreboding a conflict which has become one of Europe’s most devastating since the Second World War. Its impact on the everyday lives of Ukrainian civilians is the subject of this new photography exhibition - on display for the first time in the UK - at IWM North.
Ukraine: Photographs from the Frontline presents photographs from internationally renowned photojournalist Anastasia Taylor-Lind. Made during her time in Ukraine between 2014 and June 2022, these powerful works - displayed publicly in a UK exhibition for the first time – document the devastating reality of living amidst conflict.
The new exhibition presents her work in three sections:
Alongside these images, the exhibition includes perspectives from those on both sides of the camera. During her time in Ukraine, Anastasia worked alongside long-term collaborator and friend, Ukrainian journalist Alisa Sopova. Alisa's voice is heard throughout the exhibition by way of captions and wall texts.
Exhibition open as part of IWM North every day from 14th October 2022 until 2nd January 2023 excluding Christmas Day
