Springwater Sketchbook Walks is a series of 12 monthly guided walks through the wild and wonderful Springwater Park in Whitefield, that use drawing and walking to explore the woodland and provide a sense of a creative community spirit in the area. With the help and support of Prestwich Arts Festival and Bury Art Museum, the project aims to help join the dots of the art map between Prestwich and Bury by providing this free and inclusive arts
offering for people in Whitefield.
Starting after Autumn Equinox in September and continuing the last Sunday of every month, each walk will thoughtfully reflect on seasonal change, how this reshapes the woodland, and in turn our response to it. Participants will be encouraged to use their sketchbooks to observe, notice, collect, and interpret the environment through the process of drawing. The walks will be supported by Love Springwater Park – a group of local people who feel passionate about the park, working together so more people in the community can enjoy and explore.
Alongside the walks there will also be two exhibitions held at the volunteer-run theatre the Whitefield Garrick, where all participants are invited to show their work – the first halfway through the project, and the second at the end. The exhibitions will provide an opportunity for those taking part to have their work professionally framed and photographed, thanks to funding from Arts Council England.
The first sketchbook walk is Sunday 26th September 12-4pm, continuing after that on the last Sunday of every month. Each walk is limited to 15 people, so early booking is recommended. You can book your place on Eventbrite for free now.
