Matt Smith Morbius

The new teaser trailer for Jared Leto film Morbius has just dropped and it includes some scenes shot here in Manchester.

Elements of the Spiderman spin-off were filmed in and around the city’s Northern Quarter last Spring – and Stevenson Square was transformed into Manhattan as producers brought in yellow NYC taxis, buses and green American street signs.

Now the first teaser for Morbius has been released, we can finally get a glimpse of how Manchester looks.

The three-minute trailer is full of twists and turns, setting the scene for another edge-of-your-seat Marvel production.

Around two minutes in, Manchester makes its appearance as an orange jumpsuit-clad Leto advances down a graffitied Northern Quarter backstreet.

On the wall behind him is a mural of Spiderman with ‘murderer’ scrawled over the top, alongside other more familiar-looking paste-up posters typical of NQ alleys.

He can also be seen in the trailer wearing a dark hooded raincoat, which Leto was spotted in whilst filming scenes on Oldham street last year.

Starring alongside Leto is Dr Who star Matt Smith, who plays villain Loxias Crown, and Adria Arjona as Martine Bancroft.

The movie explores the background of comic book Spiderman villain Dr Michael Morbius, played by Oscar-winner Jared on screen.

Morbius first appeared in the Spiderman comics back in 1971, as a biologist who attempts to cure his rare blood disorder by using vampire bat DNA – which instead transforms him into a vampiric being himself.

It will be brought to life in cinemas this summer when Morbius opens on 31st July.
