Pizza. Everyone’s favourite food. Prosecco. Everyone’s favourite drink. Put them together and you have as close to foodie heaven as you can get.

Buca di Pizza is set to serve up handmade Naples-style pizzas in its take over of the former Baltic Cellalbertar site on Lloyd Street.

The idea behind the place is traditional bases with a modern twist and, judging by the sound of some of these dishes, they certainly deliver on this promise.

Buca has all the classes of margherita and pepperoni but also some more creative concoctions like Hickory Pig (hickory-smoked pulled pork, pancetta, barbecue sauce, mozzarella, and chantico-spiced cheddar) and The Snake Charmer (Goan coconut curry sauce, chilli glazed paneer, lamb koftas, onion bhajis, fresh beetroot slaw and mint yoghurt). Ingredients like that certainly keep life interesting.

In terms of drinks, Buca boasts an impressive selection of both wines and cocktails but has spared the pretentiousness associated with some Italian eateries, naming no names. Everything at the bar looks good, particularly the Amaretto Sour and signature Negroni which is made using more than 50% bourbon, and we are perfectly okay with that.

Buca also serves up a bevy of draught beers from Birra Di Buca and Peroni Nastro Azzurro to Meantime Chocolate Porter and My Antonia – none of which disappoint. Whether you fancy an easy drinking pale ale or a warmer bolder flavour with your draught, there’s a good chance you’ll enjoy the plentiful options at Buca that are both bottled and on tap.

The real deal breaker at this sharp-looking shindig is the Tutto option on the menu. It costs £22 and gives you free reign over the place. Make the most of your 90 minutes and dig into all of the crispy crust, stringy cheese pizza that your heart desires.

And you can rest assured that, whether it’s a pint or prosecco glass, your drink will be refilled. The Tuttu option is available from 12 noon to 8.30pm daily. Ready, steady, go…

Whether you’re strapped for cash and fancy getting your money’s worth or you’re just looking for an intimate outpost that serves up the best of pizza, pints and prosecco, Buca di Pizza is set to make those dreams come true. This treat of a hotspot opens in the spring so keep your eyes peeled and put the date in your diary.
