Teams from Thaikhun, Gaucho, The Ivy, Malmaison and Casual Dining Group were out and about on the streets of Manchester yesterday giving out reusable flasks filled with water to passers-by.

80 volunteers distributed over 1,400 flasks across the city centre, speaking to people sleeping rough on the streets, listening to their stories and spreading awareness of Only a Pavement Away, a charity which helps homeless ex-service personnel and ex-offenders overcome hurdles and find jobs in the hospitality industry.

“The campaign has highlighted what a great industry hospitality is and shows how businesses are an integral part of their communities,” said charity founder Greg Mangham.

“I am overwhelmed by the support we’ve had and never dreamt it would be so successful. As the fundraising continues, we hope to hit more cities and spread awareness all over the UK.”

Helping to promote the initiative and offering their venues as flask filling stations were Home Sweet Home, BrewDog, and Sandinista.
