Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, so it’s time to get your date night ideas finalised. With a city as big and wonderful as Manchester, it can be difficult to decide where to go.

Fortunately for you, Manchester’s Great Northern has a plethora of places for you to spoil your loved one, all under one roof.

For the hopeless romantics, stay traditional with exquisite food and even better drinks at James Martin Manchester. Treat yourselves with the extra special Valentine’s experience on 14th February, where you can indulge in five wondrous courses of fine food, prosecco and a box of tailor-made chocolates for £69.

And with live entertainment during the evening too, we reckon you won’t be in any rush to leave.

For lovebirds with an even bigger appetite for romance, we suggest you book in at Platzki’s, where you can try their seven course – yes, seven – Valentine’s Day tasting menu.

Delve into succulent roasted halibut with a vanilla puree, or veggies can try grilled Polish Oscypek cheese with a rose sauce. And to wash it all down? As much vodka and prosecco as you feel you deserve. And you don’t have to break the budget, either; V Day here costs just £42 per person.

If you want to spice things up, head to Thai Smiles for tasty traditional Thai dishes in the most relaxing atmosphere.

One for everyone, not just couples, you can celebrate your romance in peace without too much of a fuss (and no awkward proposals from the next table, either…).

If you’re looking to escape the Manchester rain, even if for just one night, reserve a table at Evuna for a one way ticket to Spain. Bona fide tapas treats alongside beautiful Spanish wine is the perfect equation for a passionate Valentine’s meal.

Prefer something more casual? Valentine’s Day is all about true indulgence with your loved one. And what says indulgence better than towering burgers dripping with cheese? Almost Famous have got your back.

We recommend a juicy triple cheeseburger layered with cheese, lettuce, onions pickles and famous sauce, encased in a beautifully soft sesame bun. Stop – our stomachs are rumbling already.

But you’re going to need something to wash it all down with, so order the sharing size strawberry daiquiri for £25 – you won’t need another drink all night. You might need some help getting up afterwards, though…

For a sweet treat, head to Alex’s Bakery and share a Valentine’s Day treat in a box. Inside, you’ll find two cupcakes, a tasty Jammie Dodger blondie, a deliciously gooey Nutella brownie and two fluffy cake pops. For just £12, you may as well get one each!

Now everyone knows the perfect gift for Valentine’s Day is a box of choccies, and Dormouse Chocolates do cocoa like no other. The speciality shop sells luxury boxes starting from just £6, as well as their signature realistic chocolate heart.

If you feel like your other half really deserves a treat, at The Futon Company you can choose from a whole two floors of beautifully crafted homeware for your perfect gift.

From tea sets and door stoppers to blankets and bedside tables, you are quite literally spoilt for choice. If you really want to push the boat out, forget a fancy dinner and buy your loved one a sofa instead. Then you can celebrate in the comfort of your own – now newly-decorated – home.

Or to really ‘splash out’, why not treat the person of your dreams to the bathroom of their dreams? At CP Hart Bathrooms, romance starts where the water is. Candles lit, Paolo Nutini on, bath hot, bubbles high – now that’s romantic.

Whether you’re looking for something truly classic, or perhaps this is the first date with your someone special, the cinema is always the way to go. And this Valentine’s, Odeon will be screening romantic thriller Ghost to celebrate its 30th anniversary.

For just a fiver, you can cosy up close with some sweet and salty snacks, watching *that* famous romance scene. Who knows, maybe they’ll pull the ol’ yawn move?

For a Valentine’s Day a bit out of the ordinary, get active with a visit to Whistle Punks, Manchester’s urban axe throwing experience. It’s the perfect date for couples who fancy an alternative to dinner and chocolates – and also the perfect place to celebrate Palentine’s Day.

Continuing with the Palentine’s theme – or Galentine’s, if you will – All Star Lanes is another great place to celebrate. On 13th February they’ll be throwing a shindig to spread love to all of your mates, including a Friends-inspired quiz and cocktails.

For maximum fun, opt for their Drink, Dine and Bowl special, where you can bag a game of bowling, a two-course meal and a Le Citron Fizz cocktail for £30.

And finally, for the couples who want to celebrate quite literally *all* night, Impossible have the perfect night planned.

Begin with a six-course set menu for £35 per person and then get stuck into the collection of 84 different gins. Once you’re nice and jolly, venture downstairs to where the real party is. What happens in Impossible stays in Impossible.
