The Institutes

Formed in December 2018, The Institutes have blazed onto the UK underground music scene on their own terms, signing to Manchester’s in 2020 and releasing their highly acclaimed debut album ‘COLOSSEUMS’.

Hailing from Coventry, the 5-piece have built a solid and loyal following for their addictive mesmerising tunes. While the band’s musical output is too eclectic to pigeonhole, it wears its influences proudly on its sleeves, sitting somewhere between shoegaze and indie rock, with a nod in the direction of Fleetwood Mac harmonies and The Byrd’s psychedelic jangles. At times raw, and at others refined, their sound is filled with candid and vulnerable, poetic lyrics on a bed of layered guitars, soaring howls and a solid grooving rhythm section, which has seen them gain plaudits for their album and their live shows worldwide. The Institutes can switch from chaotic but ecstatic melodic wonder to delicate brazen honesty in the blink of an eye.
