This summer, families are invited to explore Quentin Blake and Me, a colourful and interactive exhibition at Lowry in Salford, celebrating one of Britain’s best-loved illustrators.
Running throughout the school holidays, the exhibition showcases over 100 of Quentin Blake’s iconic illustrations. Children can hop aboard a full-size sailing boat inspired by A Sailing Boat in the Sky, visit the National (Monster) Portrait Gallery based on Russell Hoban’s Monsters, and try a fiendishly tricky magnetic marble puzzle inspired by John Yeoman’s version of The Voyages of Sinbad. There are also creative spaces for dressing up, drawing and story writing.
Quentin Blake has illustrated more than 500 books and is known for bringing to life unforgettable characters like The BFG, Mr. Stink, and many more through his playful, distinctive style.
Across the building, Lowry is offering a wide range of free family activities all summer. Enjoy storytelling sessions, portrait-making with local artists, a cockatoo trail, hands-on fun in the family space, The Lookout, and cosy reading time in the Book Nook. For a bit of adventure, take a photo with the brand-new Enormous Crocodile statue.
As a special addition, Blake has even created an original drawing of LS Lowry to hang in the exhibition.
Part of Lowry’s 25th anniversary season, Quentin Blake and Me reflects everything Lowry stands for – creativity, imagination and making the arts accessible to everyone.
Free activities and affordable entry mean it’s a great day out for families of all ages.
