People are invited to a get-together at Longford Park, Stretford, on Sunday 11 May, to discover what the park has to offer, share their stories and memories, and learn more about the regeneration work gathering pace.

The Park’s popular Community Allotment Open Day this year will be combined with a celebration to mark the beginning of the £6m People, Place and Nature Project, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, which will transform the park for people and wildlife.

The fun from 1.30pm to 4.30pm is set to include plant sale, home-made cakes and snacks, live music, a talk by local author Juliette Tomlinson, and a chance to try crown green bowling. The Friends of Longford Park and staff from Trafford Council will also be there to talk about improvement plans.

All-ability cycling organisation Simply Cycling will be bringing its bikes and Chorlton Bike Deliveries will be there to promote its work. Aims are to restore and improve the existing features and facilities of the historic park. Better play, recreational and sports facilities are on the way, to create a major hub for physical activity and wellbeing.

The park’s biodiversity and resilience to the impacts of climate change will also be boosted as part of work due to get under way later this year. As part of the project, people’s memories and stories are being gathered to preserve andshowcase the history and heritage of the park and its status as a much-loved community destination.
