Step into an immersive new film and performance work by award-winning artist Juliet Ellis, offering a powerful and dreamlike reflection on identity, the body and what it means to be human.
A Symphony of Flesh and Bones explores where the self begins and ends, and how our physical form shapes who we are – particularly as it ages or changes. Drawing from her own family’s story, Ellis focuses on the lives of her father Lloyd, a former world champion bodybuilder, and her brother Anthony, a retired cage fighter.
Through multi-screen film and live performance, Ellis examines how we construct our bodies as protection, expression or identity – and what happens when those structures begin to fade.
The installation is rooted in Ellis’ Buddhist practice and combines stillness, movement and memory. At the centre of the space, Ellis appears live, guiding the work as scenes of her family – past and present – unfold around her in layered, meditative visuals.
Juliet Ellis is known for her bold and deeply personal work across film, theatre and performance. Her debut feature Ruby won Best Drama at the Berlin Independent Film Festival and the Fellini Award at Austin Arthouse Film Festival.
With A Symphony of Flesh and Bones, Ellis invites audiences into a moving, sensory journey – one that asks how we see ourselves, how we see each other, and what it means to inhabit a body over time
