After last year’s roaring success, the much-loved Altrincham Beer Mile is back, bringing laughter, laps, and libations to The Timperley Track on Friday, July 11, 2025, from 7 p.m. onwards.
Organised by local running and beer enthusiasts, participants will revolve through four delicious laps and four bottles of beer (or fruit cider or prosecco!)—all BYOB style. Fancy something fizzier? The Prosecco Mile offers a sommelier-served glass per lap. Don’t feel up for the whole thing? Teams can tackle the relay version—each runner takes a 400 m lap with a drink in hand.
Children are part of the fun too, with the Fruit Shoot 400 offering one lap and a juice treat (just let organisers know how many little ones are coming). While the drinks are self-supplied, organisers ensure that no one goes hungry, thanks to Catering by Duncan Dickinson, which offers a hearty BBQ spread with vegetarian and vegan options. Spectators, please note your arrival times: gates open at 6:45 p.m., with races commencing around 7:10 p.m., featuring 4–5 heat starts and plenty of camaraderie.
What makes this year’s Beer Mile extra special is the growing buzz around Altrincham’s craft scene, with local pubs like The Old Roebuck and Costello’s making waves in the real ale community. Add to that the event’s upgraded catering lineup, a renewed focus on inclusivity—from kids’ races to team relays—and its laid-back BYOB format, and you’ve got an event that’s more than a race. It’s a vibrant celebration of everything the town stands for: fun, community, and a deep love of both running and great drinks. As part of a town already known for its food festivals and lively spirit, this event captures Altrincham’s energy like nothing else.
The entry fee of £9 covers food and event costs, and the relaxed, community vibe ensures runners of all levels feel welcome—whether you’re here to sprint, savour, or simply soak up the atmosphere. Held at the Altrincham Athletics Club on Grove Lane, it’s the perfect way to kick off the summer.
