Most businesses have been hit hard by the pandemic.

Some have been forced to close, some have gone online. A lucky few have flourished by adapting to new trading conditions.

Bury-based Dunster’s Farm had been a supplier of chilled and ambient food to a wide range of businesses including hotels and restaurants, catering and hospitality businesses, schools, colleges and hospitals for almost 60 years.

But when many of its customers were forced to close their doors because of the pandemic, Dunster’s Farm quickly changed tack.

With a little help from eCommerce consultancy PushON and web and creative agency A Story Called, a new website was launched in just two weeks and the business was transformed.

Now Dunster’s Farm, which started as a milk round back in the 1950s, stocks hundreds of products including fresh meat, fish and fruit and veg and is receiving hundreds of orders a day.

“We had been considering launching an online service to take household orders for a while now,” said joint managing director Hannah Barlow.

“This line of work is in the business’ DNA after all, with my grandfather having started it as a milk round. When the crisis hit and we saw how much trouble people were having getting hold of the essentials they needed without compromising their health, we knew it was time.

“We’ve worked hard to get this service up and running as quickly as possible and it is paying dividends – the feedback we are receiving from customers has been brilliant and it is great to know we are doing something to help the community cope during this difficult time.”

So if you’re struggling to get a delivery from one of the big supermarkets, why not give Dunster’s Farm a try? Orders can be delivered via contactless delivery to postcodes in Manchester, Stockport, Wigan, Bolton, Rochdale, Oldham and Bury or collected from the Dunster’s Farm warehouse in Bury.
