How to celebrate Chinese New Year in Manchester 2025 – the Year of the Snake
Lunar New Year
1-2 February 2025
Lunar New Year marks the arrival of spring and the beginning of the lunisolar calendar. This year is the year of the Snake! Also known as Spring Festival and Chinese New Year, the holiday is celebrated throughout the Asian diaspora, from Vietnam (Tet) to North and South Korea (Seollal) and Tibet (Losar). Cambodia, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore and Malaysia also celebrate this holiday.
Saturday, 1 February and Sunday, 1 February 2025 will be one of the UK’s ‘brightest’ and most colourful events as we welcome the Year of the Snake and celebrate Chinese New Year in Manchester. Bright red lanterns hang resplendently from trees across the city centre as the streets host live performances, stalls and funfair, plus the return of the city’s legendary Dragon Parade.
