It’s the time of year again where we stock up the cupboards for Christmas, get some well-earned lie-ins, and – fingers crossed – unwrap something other than a deodorant gift set.

A time of year when we can put our differences aside – especially after the Brexit referendum which has left the country split down the middle – lick our wounds and get very very drunk.

While there’s lots of people across Greater Manchester to thank – hospitality and night-time workers for warm welcomes and keeping us entertained over Christmas and retail workers for their assistance in the impossibly busy shops before and during Christmas – but let’s raise a glass to the people we most rely on, the heroic civic service people who just crack on against all odds and have to treat Christmas as just another working day.

Let’s thank all the NHS staff who are helping to save lives and care for those in need over Christmas.

And all the midwives helping to safely deliver babies over Christmas…

Star players from Manchester City Football Club paid a visit to Manchester Royal Children’s Hospital to show their appreciation…

As did Salford Red Devils…

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue were advising us to be safe in the kitchen when cooking the Christmas dinner…

And warning us about the fire risks of overloading plug sockets and compromising your fire alarm…

And not to leave candles burning…

And then demonstrated exactly why not…

Greater Manchester Police have made us feel safe and secure in the run-up to Christmas with ‘Operation Yuletide’…

They looked out for us during one of the busiest nights of the year…

While you were supping your Baileys coffee, Greater Manchester Police were patrolling the streets making sure there were no silly drunk drivers…

Greater Manchester Police have been warning us about fraudsters…

GM Police have also been busy advising people to register their new possessions to protect them against theft…

And of course GM Police will be ready for New Years Eve celebrations…

On behalf of Greater Manchester, thank you. Thanks a lot. Cheers!
