You may be familiar with Manchester Big Issue vendor Colin, who sells his magazines on Oxford Road and First Street.

Colin is classed as vulnerable, so during lockdown, he had to stop selling The Big Issue – but now he is now back doing what he loves.

He has been selling the magazine at weekends and during Bank Holidays to make ends meet. He does not get a break.

Usually, Colin likes to get away to Blackpool for an overnight stay once a year. But due to the cost of living crisis, he cannot afford it.

He grows his own vegetables to save money and because he enjoys it, but his bills, like everyone’s, have shot up.

So this year he is having to forget about going to Blackpool. Or so he thought.

“If we raise £200, this will fund a trip to Blackpool and give Colin a well-earned break,” said I Love MCR’s theatre reviewer, Glenn Meads, who decided to take action and set up a JustGiving page to raise money for Colin.

“If we raise more, he can stay for longer.

“He has been through the mill and really needs to smell the sea air and get out of Manchester for a few days and put his feet up.

“But he cannot even dream of doing this at the moment.”

The appeal was shared by the team at I Love MCR, who have been helping local communities and charities for over a decade.

And generous locals stepped up to donate to the good cause, so that Colin can have a break.

Not only was the target reached, but it was smashed.

On top of that, £200 has also been donated to Coffee for Craig – an amazing local charity which supports the homeless.

“Colin is off on a holiday and is delighted,” tweeted Glenn.

“He is chuffed and he is going away this weekend.

“He really needed this. And @Coffee4Craig have received £200 to continue their great work.

“Thanks for the contributions, shares and likes.

“Colin is gobsmacked and cannot thank you enough, and Coffee 4 Craig are delighted and thank you, too.”

Thank you for your generosity and big heartedness, Manchester. We knew we could count on you.
